Eat your greens, niños!
There are some kids that need an extra push to finish or even try to eat a salad. I have a rare gem in my home. My kids like to eat salads. Even though the salad is just plain lettuce and dressing, they gobble the whole thing down. I just sit with amazement and a heart full of pride.
When I moved to the OC 3 years ago, my oldest son got to experience a salad bar at his school for the first time. He was very excited. He would tell me about the variety of toppings he was able to add to his salad and that made me proud. My two little ones are now attending the same school and are completely fascinated by the fact that they get to have a pint-size salad bar, just for them.
This is why I am happy to announce that Whole Foods Market is giving back in the form of…. green! Tomorrow Sunday, Sept. 9, Whole Foods Market will donate $1 for every pound of food purchased at its salad and hot food bars in its Southern Pacific region stores (Southern California, Hawaii, Arizona & Las Vegas) to help put salad bars in local schools through the Whole Kids Foundation. This is something we all should take advantage of, don’t you think?
We need to make the necessary changes in the way our kids eat at school. Especially us moms who don’t make lunches for our kids, like me. With Michelle Obama’s push to get the kids moving at http://www.letsmove.gov/ and the wonderful partnership Whole Foods Market and Salad Bars 2 School, we all can make a change tomorrow. I personally saw the impact it made on my son to have a salad bar in his school. I have no doubt that it can also make an impact at your son/daughter’s school as well!
