Where can I go for a free Skin Cancer Screening?

The summer sun is upon us and now is the time to kick that sunblock into high gear. All the fun stuff we learned in the spring should now be implemented! Having said that, did you know that you can get a free skin cancer screening?

Here are some facts to educate you as to why we should all take advantage of the free screenings. Especially the Hispanic community:

People who tan indoors just four times a year increase their risk of developing melanoma by 11 percent.
The incidence of melanoma among Latinos has increased at an annual rate of 2.9% in the past 15 years, which is about the same amount as the annual increase among Caucasians.
Compared to Caucasian women, fewer Hispanic women always/often wear sunscreen or believe it is important to wear sunscreen daily.
There is no such thing as a healthy suntan. Any change in your natural skin color is a sign of skin damage.
Individuals with darker skin tones mistakenly perceive themselves as having low or no risk for skin cancer, but everyone, regardless of skin color, can get the disease.

Mamas, please don’t forget the sunblock on you, your honey and your kids. Especially the kids. You want them to develop a healthy skin routine when they go out. My kids don’t even ask about their towels or what kind of bathing suites they are going to wear. The first thing they ask is I have the “spray.”
