Katherine Sarafian talks about BRAVE
The following few posts will feature our interviews with the producers and directors of Brave and La Luna. During our trip to Pixar, we had a sit down interview with non other than the producer of Brave, Katherine Sarafian.
If you’ve been keeping up with the trip, you know that we only saw the first 30 minutes of the movie. We were left hanging with anticipation of what was going to happen next. Could we have see the whole movie? Believe it or not… no. Why? Well, there is a minor little detail. At the time that we made this trip, Brave was not finished yet. So we all have to wait for the June 22nd release.
We started off the conversation asking about the challenges in getting the film done. As you may know, Pixar has been working on this film for more than 6 years. As parents, moms and caregivers, we know that a lot can happen in 6 years. Take a look at the life of Katherine in those six years…
I started the film as a single gal, and went on the research trip, and then I came back and met my husband, got married, had the first kid, now finishing the film, before we could finish, the second kid came…
Can you imagine that? I think she’ll be happy when opening weekend is here.
The next question was about the challenges she faced in getting this film done. I would think her personal accomplishments would say it all! Still, I love her answer here. It’s so genuine and honest.
I think the biggest challenge, and I’d say probably the other producers of the other films here would say the same thing, the story is really hard at Pixar. Trying to tell a great, great story to the Pixar level of quality, and it’s a challenge because you really want to. We put pressure on ourselves to do the best that we can, and it’s hard work and it takes a long time. We’re, we’re gonna be putting Brave out into the world, but we could keep working on it because we always want to keep making these better and better.
I think I feel (at times) the same way about this blog. I am constantly thinking about how I can make things better. Should I re-write this or delete that. It really is a never-ending fight for me. I truly understand what she means.
Here are a few tidbits about the movie that we learned from our interview with Katherine. Did you know???
- The title “BRAVE” was the original title for the movie, but “The Bear and the Bow” was also a contender!
- Merida turns 16 in the film
- Will-o-the-whisps are inspired by an actual Scottish phenomenon that are gases that light up blue, and then as you come close to them, then they disappear. Legend says they will change your fate.
- Is the movie done yet? Accoding to Katherine she stated that the movie should be done by the end of May. Do you think that at this very moment, Brave is officially over and out? I hope so!
This is not a paid post. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This exclusive event (including transportation and accommodations) is sponsored by Walt Disney Studios. Gracias, Mickey!
