Nutritional Changes for My Familia
I’m sure you have heard that McDonald’s has a new item on its breakfast menu. Oatmeal! I love avena (oatmeal). If it’s part of the menu choice somewhere, I almost always chose oatmeal. My tia makes the BEST oatmeal ever. I don’t know how she does it, but it tastes good all the time! With this new addition to McDonald’s breakfast menu, I was super eager to try it out!
Since I’ve fallen victim to the whole “Time to start eating healthy” time of the year, I have made several changes to my personal way of eating. I have mentioned this before, but my familia was big time addicted to soda. I know… I am ashamed.
We used to drink soda with every meal. I knew it was bad. When I made the decision to stop buying soda, I knew I made it for my husband and kids and even more, for myself. This is just the start of trying to “shape up” how we eat. How I shop for groceries. How I order for the kids. Heck, even how I order for myself. It’s was hard at first, but I kept my mexipinitos in my mind. Being a SAHM, and the sole “grocery shopper”, I knew the change had to come from me.
My nutritional goals for this year, is that I would like to challenge my family to eating less fat. This means buying leaner meats, more greens and even more whole grains.
The McDonald’s Oatmeal is tasty. I’ve tasted the oatmeal in a variety of ways. My favorite is without the extra brown sugar. I also asked that they not put in the cranberries. I was given the cranberries on the side, and I added a few as I ate. This is great because, they do it to your liking. If you want no sugar, or no apples they will do it for you! Just ask!
Fruit & Maple Oatmeal has
- 290 calories per serving and is an excellent source of fiber and vitamin C.
- It provides 32 grams of 100 percent natural whole grain oats and about 25 percent of an individual’s daily recommendations for fruit.
- Fruit & Maple Oatmeal without brown sugar has 260 calories per serving.
The first time I ate the oatmeal, I was good to go for a while. I like that. It’s satisfying. Taste great. And that Amigas, is good enough for me!
